Acacia ulicifolia is also flowering now. A closeup showing the shape of the leaves is needed before a decision can be made on which species it is.

Thanks, Betty - I've uploaded a second photo (the most close up that I have)

Hi WalterEgo
as Betty wood suggested a close up would help. We found a number of Acacia ulicifolia, Prickly Moses in that area. A. ulicifolia is considered a rare species in the ACT as opposed to A. genistifolia so it would be great to confirm. The leaf shape is a good identification feature as well as tiny stipules on the base of the phyllodes (pointed leaf-like structures); stipules are present in A. ulicifolia - see for instance the pink highlight in
http://canberra.naturemapr.org/Community/Sightings/Details/8080
but they are absent in A. genistifolia.

I think enlarging the second picture shows the phyllodes of Acacia ulicifolia. The rare plants list has just been revised and A. ulicifolia has been taken off the list, thanks to the number of sightings on CNM. Going by the health and size of the ones I see, that could be a premature decision. A. genistifolia seems uncommon south of Lake Burley Griffin and the ones I have seen have been planted.

The few clear phyllodes ('leaves') in the second photo look like ulicifolia to me also. The photo is not clear enough to see the stipules.
On the Belconnen side of the north side, genistifolia is common on Black Mountain to Cook-Aranda and Bruce, at least near the hospital. Waltraud wiil know more than I about Ainslie-Majura.

Betty, thanks for comments - I agree it looks like A ulicifolia.
Mike, thanks for the update! I wonder whether it would be possible to circulate an updated list of rare species to CNM administrators, ParkCare groups etc?

Thanks, all for the correction and informative discussion. I returned today and took some extra photos. The third photo I think confirms that the tiny stipules are present.

Yes! clearly visible stipules.

hi WalterEgowhen
I received below comment but for some reason it didn't show up on this page. Anyhow I think dublicates are okay - for instance orchids have been recorded multiple times which provides additional information. Plus some Prickly Moses records don't have photographs attached because i had only a GPS to record the sites when CNM was in its infancy.
Enjoy this splendid Spring day

I found a group of three more Prickly Moses plants (reported at http://canberra.naturemapr.org/Community/Sightings/Details/3380893)
but that report has been marked as a duplicate - it is a separate sighting.

Thanks, Waltraud - you too, what a beautiful day!
The comment disappeared because I deleted it. At first I thought that when the sighting (at http://canberra.naturemapr.org/Community/Sightings/Details/3380893) had been marked as a duplicate, it was being confused with this sighting. But then I realised that it was likely being marked as a duplicate of a sighting in 2015 (http://canberra.naturemapr.org/Community/Sightings/Details/1947603) and so deleted my comment. Happy for the moderators to retain or remove my sighting as they see fit.
