in shallow water (recently risen due to heavy rains end Nov). Details: Pith interrupted. Height 40 to 65 cm. Culms green, 1-2 mm diam.

A bit surprised - PlantNet gives inflorescence for J. continuous as “diffuse”, which is a bit different from the dense clusters here.

Upon review i think J.continuus is still most likely with these features - perhaps the inflorescence was still yet to mature and that explains the clusters? I feel like I am seeing some branching. J.sarophorus also perhaps worth considering.

Not J. continuus (has continuous pith in the culms and the flowerhead is diffuse, as Jane says). Pics of the long leaf sheaths (cataphylls) at the base of the culms would help with ID.
