Possibly a Queen? Interestingly, when disturbed the ant virtually froze in place out in the open and wouldn't move for several minutes.

Hi Tim, yes definitely a queen. I'm not sure about the species, but the pale legs suggest that it could be Camponotus claripes. Cheers, Jon
