Note the copper tail, make this fairly distinctive.

A great photograph - shows regrown tail. These skinks are quite fast-moving and shy and it can be hard to sneak up and get close like you have. The Copper-tailed Skink typically lives in rocky areas in more open areas in forest, woodland and grassland.
