We used to start our blackberry picking at the Cotter in February then work our way up to finish at Bulls Head at Easter, because the higher altitude patches ripened later.

Was the plant high arching? Apart from that character the key in Plantnet to weedy blackberries is based on petals.

it seemed to match all the other blackberries I had had identified as Rubus anglocandicans, though I didn't look closely at young canes. The fruit has reflexed sepals of European Rubus species so it should be recored as Rubus fruticosus agg. not just Rubus sp.(which also includes native species). Maybe someone should make records of all the local blackberries. The WoNS Blackberry Control Manual has some useful information on identification but I haven't checked this against the PlantNET keys.
