Rosa canina has also been recorded on CNM. Rosa rubiginosa has leaves which are glandular below, and flower stalks with glandular hairs and fine prickles. Rosa canina has leaves which are not glandular, and hairless flower stalks without prickles. This photo neither shows the flower stalks nor the backs of the leaves.
Thanks Betty, It hadn't occurred to me that Rosa canina had gotten out into the upland bush areas when I took the photo. I had assumed Rosa rubiginosa was more of an upright shrub in its habit and Rosa canina tended to rely on the support of adjacent plants or structures. Your clue with the leaves flower stalks will be what I look for in the future.
