Hi Jane. The grass is pretty rare in Canberra and uncommon in the region. It is very widespread, but I assume it's one of those species that typically occurs west of the Range. It may have come in with stock/hay assuming it doesn't naturally occur on the Tablelands, but I really have no idea.
I have also updated the field guide with a line of text regarding its colour.

Eragrostis elongata

If silvery colour is distinctive for this species, then perhaps it could be featured in the Field Guide ?

@MattM
Thanks Matt, I see it is 'rare or uncommon' - ?? this was a TSR which was otherwise pretty weedy, but had great aquatic plants in the creek.

As you have noticed, Eragrostis elongata is quite distinct in its colour and stands out from a lot of other grasses.
