Great photo. Its snout is very elongated which shows that it is a Burton's snake lizard.

Interesting that all Canberra Nature Map records of Burtons Legless Lizard are close to a major river, whether the Murrumbidgee, Cotter or Queanbeyan Rivers

Yes they seem to like those warm open dry river slopes. I have, however, seen one in Black Mountain Nature Reserve (on the west side low down) and one at the foot of Mt Tennent well away from river. WillOvalley. WillO.
