The long tail, rounded body and shape of the head (very pointy) indicates that this is a Burton's Legless lizard (Lialis burtonis). However it is difficult to see this clearly in the photograph. Did you (or others) take any extra photographs of it. Need a clearer or more side on picture. I am interested to hear more about what your neighbours reported about a nest and other babies. Did any one photograph them? They may have seen juvenile brown snakes.
I don't know if neighbours took any photos. I was just told that a nest had been found on the nature reserve and a few juvenile Browns had been seen going into their backyard. I will add some more photos. Not the greatest pics. It moved like a snake if that helps any.
OK - thanks - will look forward to seeing the extra photos. Two experts are now in agreement that it is a harmless Burtons Legless Lizard. In fact it is a very good record as it is a fairly rare species around Canberra-Queanbeyan region.WillO.
Thanks for loading those extra photos - we are now confident that the "lizard" is Burtons Legless Lizard = Burtons Snake-lizard. Very snake like in appearance but it is a harmless legless lizard. well done. WillO.
