Hydnangium carneum (Hydnangium carneum)

 

Hydnangium carneum, a native truffle, is generally a pale to dark flesh pink and the epithet 'carneum' (derived from the same Latin root as carnivore) alludes to the flesh colour. It may grow to a couple of centimetres in diameter and may be globular but the larger specimens are generally a little flattened so that they are broader than high.
