Mountain Dragon is one of three species in the genus Rankinia in Australia. Rankinia are known by their habit of burrowing. Until recently Mountain Dragon was included in the genus Tympanocryptis.
Mountain Dragon may be distinguished from similar looking species such as Jacky and Nobbi Dragons by colour and spines along the base of the tail, mouth colour, behaviour and habitat. To distinguish it from other similar species, please read the general note on dragons.
Distribution: In the ACT region it is a high altitude specialist.
