This site was previously sprayed to kill Chilean Needle Grass. Apart from the not unexpected regrowth of CNG, there are a range of other weed species which germinated from a massive soil seed bank (Phalaris, Paspalum, Cocksfoot, Sowthisle, Prickly Lettuce, thistles, Buchan Weed, Wild Sage and more). FoMM proposed to top this weed-only site with wood chip mulch after the initial CNG treatment to lower the nutrient content and suppress germination of weeds; monitor and follow-up weed control; then follow up by direct seeding native ground cover species into the decomposing mulch. FoMM proofed this concept at various sites with positive results. PCS prohibited FoMM to use the successful mulching tool because mulching suppresses the germination of native grasses ??????
