User's notes

Another sad gang gang tale. This pair have successfully raised fledgling for the past couple of years, including one year where we witnessed the male fight off a kreft's glider from the tree. We monitored them again this year, and from the first time two eggs were sighted until today, we guestimated the nestlings would have been 1 - 2 weeks old. This morning, as I walked towards the hollow, the male and female glided silently past me, landing on a branch above the hollow. There, they groomed each other intensely for half an hour or more, and did not enter or show interest in the hollow. My heart sank - this did not look good. The female eventually flew to the hollow but instead of going down to feed chicks, she growled and spread her wings defensively, peering down into the base. TomT checked the hollow the next day with a pole camera, and sadly, he found half-eaten carcasses. These disappeared overnight, presumably devoured by, we assume, one or more kreft's gliders. :( :(
