User's notes

large areas of this species in areas of the horse paddocks, taller than me. Also smaller areas in the former horse paddocks, mainly along the lower parts of gullies.

The horse paddock was subject to super-phosphate application during the time when it was managed by Gov staff (it is now managed by contractor). The super-phosphate application was during drought around the time when FoMM began 20 years ago. I found the application utterly inadequate if not criminal. But of course, volunteers are idiots. The soil phosphate measurements show extreme readings in downhill Justice Robert Hope Park (several culverts under Antill Street direct water & sediment with phophor attached to clay minerals onto JRHP) which is managed as an offset (hahaha); the offset manager most likely doesn't know the history... I don't have info of soil measurements in the paddock but assume nutrient / phosphor levels are high too.
Phalaris certainly benefits from an increased nutrient level on top of the already naturally occuring higher nutrient level of lower slopes with their deep soils compared to steeper slopes with shallow soils.
