Did it have square stems ?
Was it growing in water ?

( just trying to narrow the rather large range of possibilities)

First thing I thought of is Mentha x piperita but not particularly convinced by that suggestion

Not growing in water per say but rather on a creekline, stems rounded not square. It's not Veronica, I know that species well.

rounded stems rules out Lamiaceae. which does help to narrow things down

Found another plant today which keyed easily to Prostanthera subalpina (previously P.lasioanthos). Turns out I had misremebered the stem shape, they were definitley square.
