Been back and forwards between Common and Shouldered Brown. Going to leave this to those much more knowledgeable as I’m on the fence.
Namadgi - south side of Pheasants Hill - was about 7 degrees with SW breeze around 25-30kph. This was fairly sheltered from the wind.
Your suggestion is correct, this is a male Shouldered Brown. Note the large, dark 'rectangular ish' patch of sex scales at the top of the forewing and the black dot with white centre on the hindwing. Sex scale configuration differs on Common Brown males and the hindwing black spot is blue centred and is surrounded by a black ring.
