The drooping inflorescence radiating from a single, erect stem makes me think of Austrostipa bigeniculata. Additionally the leaves appear to lack the short hairs characteristic of Chilean needlegrass, but the camera might not have picked up that detail if present.
@MattM - more than happy to go for another walk and take a better camera to pick up on this. Having a look at the many reference photos across CNM, I know know what you mean by the short hairs. Don't recall seeing any, but can go back in coming days and get that reference photo for surety. Cheers, Jim
Pull one of the seeds off. If it is Chilean needlegrass it will have a corona between the seed and the awn as shown in https://canberra.naturemapr.org/sightings/3366054. Austrostipa bigeniculata does not have this.
