Is this a common phenomenon (no pun intended).? Males and femsles chasing each other in flight?

There were a few females very high up being pursued. Those trails are of individual butterflies in a stack sequence on camera. There were around 160 individuals in that shot. Boom times for species whose larval food is grass. Most of the males will be finished in a couple of weeks.
