Oops. I did upload this at the start of the year but haven't had an ID so forgot I had done it.

@gregbaines what are your thoughts?

Foliage somewhat reminds me of Cotula coronopifolia over Hyalosperma demissum or Siloxerus multiflorus. I can't place the "flower bracts?", if thats what we are looking at.

Hi Emma,

Sorry for the slow reply – just returned to work after a week in Melbourne.

I suspect your unknown is Brachyscome perpusilla- see https://vicflora.rbg.vic.gov.au/flora/taxon/2bbce132-ad86-45ac-a6ef-e251a73235ac . I think you said you have a specimen/s. To confirm can you please check that the ligules are < 2mm long and the fruit completely lack a pappus. If it’s this species it will be a new record for the ACT and quite a range extension. We would love a specimens for the herbarium if possible.

Cheers,
Dave Albrecht (CSIRO)

FYI, response from Dave at ANH. My sample is too dried to confirm his questions re: ligule length and seed pappus. But I can hopefully locate it in our plot again this season and sample for him to confirm. Gooroo is throwing up all kinds of things these days!

Sadly, despite a few efforts over the season I wasn't able to relocate this species in 2022. Based on the VicFlora images in comparison to all of the ones I have, and Dave's expert opinion I am confident his ID is correct.

This must be like the 6-7th new species for the ACT found in the last couple of years.

That particular location is quite extraordinary for its diversity and the number of unusual species it supports. It is a bit of a treasure trove.
