Sorry Matthew, my first thought was a Koel then was unsure. The bird which was feeding it was vey small and we have had a lot of the Eastern Spinebill ( not Eastern Honeyeater)in our garden with babies so thought that’s what it may have been. I wasn’t expecting that feeding so wasn’t ready for a photo. Can’t be positive except it was the size of the Spinebill. We have Koel every year near ur but have never seen any except the male. Thanks for your help.
Thanks @goyenjudy for the clarification, I thought you might have meant Eastern Spinebill. Still, I have never heard of this species being a host for the Koel. If you could please keep watch and see if you can get a photo of the parent feeding the dependent young bird, that would be good. The typical host parent is the Red Wattlebird in our region.
I’ll keep watch, at the moment the Koel has gone, has been coming back early morning so will watch tomorrow. Definitely wasn’t the Red Wattlebird we have them in our garden all year. Had 2 of their babies in the same tree last year. The bird was much smaller than them. It was hovering in front of the Koels mouth.
