Appears to be an old Yellow Box Gum tree that Gang Gangs are living in ,they often return to this big old tree. Recently in the storm it dropped a limb so I hope the Government does not cut it down. I am sure it is pre settlement in its age.
Add in a sighting of a gang gang, no photo required, but indicate on the sighting that it is a nesting site & add other details as well. That will help with gang gang research & may help preserve the tree. I will confirm.
Thanks LMS - we will add this one to our list of trees of interest. The hollows in old trees like this quite often hold water, virtually continuously, and can be a regular water source for Gang-gangs. Gang-gangs also often and regularly visit hollows that they are not nesting in. Only about 10% of hollows that Gang-gangs show an interest in in the Canberra area are actually utilised as a nest tree.
