I'n not sure this is Mnesampela privata. The feel of the moth is different somehow. (I know it sounds silly). The colour of the hindwings is different. It was a large moth, quite worn.

Hard to go past the sinuous forewing margin and the two forewing speckled bands.

How about the colour of the hindwings? In Mnesampela privata they are orange ang here they are white with a wide darker edge.

Good point. Moths of Victoria makes this clear. M. comarcha, I think better fits your observarion.

Looking at the BOLD specimens at

and

yes : the actual colour of the hindwing of M. privata always seems yellowish. Mnesampela comarcha, M. lenaea and M. kunama seem to have hindwings nearer the white shading to brown of this specimen,. M. kunama has no obvious forewing bands, and M. comarcha has a less obvious hindwing marginal band, so I reckon you have M. lenaea.

Very brown overal collouring, not grey. Hindwing not plain grey, not sharp-pointed, but with marginal darker colouring. I'm suggestiing an M. comarcha female,

That fits much better. I am, however, a bit puzzled by the orange veins on the forewings of my specimen. I can't see that on any of the ones you suggest.

How about Fisera eribola? Observation https://biocache.ala.org.au/occurrences/b273555b-ab4a-4a10-b500-c139cade665e even has the orange veins.
