User's notes

Photo 1 within 2 metres of Fungus sighting 426557, photo 2 in same location as previous cluster of fungi sightings. Texture like a toadstool, not styrofoam. Not attached to ground, looks like a large decayed fungus fruiting body, possibly a more decayed version of sighting 426557.

Remnants of an old Laetiporus portentosus. Yes these remnants do look like styrofoam because the insects just love to eat the fresh fungus leaving a myriad of holes and tunnels! This fungus grows on various living Eucalyptus trees causing brown cubical rot. Seems to be slow acting. The dry fungus is combustible and was once used as tinder for firelighting by pre-European Aborigines and early colonists
