Probably originally planted, which makes the ID wide open. The photo shows no detail of leaf veins, leaf edges, branchlets showing how the leaves are attached, whole plant, or bark, and the flower heads are too advanced to count the individual flowers. On the whole, melanoxylon flowers in winter and implexa in summer, so it is probably neither of them

Unless you have a permit, you should not pick even leaves anywhere on public land in the ACT. In Nature Reserves the rules are even stricter.

Thanks Betty - I have seen this plant in the field it is Acacia implexa and probably self sown
