User's notes

This is a guess based on the look of the insect - it was in the mud at the side of the pond, and much smaller than an adult Mole Cricket

In trying to identify mole cricket species using "A Guide To Crickets of Australia" by David Rentz and You Ning Su, I believe this to be Gryllotalpa nitidula. The only group of mole crickets with a smooth and shiny pronotum is the Nitidula group composed of 2 species (Rentz p 354), only one of which occurs in the ACT (the other only occurs in Queenland). Therefore this must be Gryllotalpa nitidula.
