This spider was on this slender plant on Red Hill. It looked like it had seen better days as it has lost a leg from each side.

Looks juvenile. The legs are very huntsman-like, and the body does not discount a huntsman (although the abdomen is quite elongate). Matches Neosparassus calligaster in its mottled carapace. The medial marking on the abdomen is more distinct than usual for that species, but this may be due to its young age. It appears to be hunting on foliage at night, also typical of Neosparassus.

Hi Kim, Many thanks for the identification. I looked the Neosparassus calligaster up on Google and I see what you mean. I wish I had photographed the underside, certainly a beautiful looking spider.
