Not sure what this is, a bird getting adult plumage? Seemed to be the size of a whistler.

Looks like a young whistler (Golden?) but colours are strange. Is the dark red on the front missing feathers?

Definitely a whistler of some sort, most likely Golden.

I was talking to Philip Veerman about this sighting and he said: "Clearly on shape a Whistler. Yes the colours seem odd but then not really. It is a young Golden Whistler, presumably born last spring, moulting out of the rufous juvenile plumage to the new grey plumage. The reddish bits are being replaced. That is why it is so scrappy and untidy".
