User's notes

I would like to knw which species. Very sticky - unfortunately it was in new 2-year old planting. All plants have been removed but one can expect more in the future!

Get rid of it before it seeds. It can get big and weigh down shrubs. Wear gloves when you pull it out because some people get contact dermatitis. It is edible if you cook it or make tea,but i have never been that hungry.

When the leaves are in whorls of at least seven, and the plant is hefty, it is Galium aparine. The hooked hairs are also very typical The other species with leaves in whorls of at least seven is a very delicate looking plant. Galium aparine, from the experience in my garden, is a lot if work to eradicate. The first time you notice a flower, it seems to have already produced a lot of seeds.
