Are ticks in the ears of lizards a common thing? Weirdly when I was in Noosa National Park earlier this month, I found a pink tongued skink that had 2 ticks just behind his right arm as well...

I'd have said very common. Probably more common than not in the larger lizards like bluetongues etc.
