Plant with bud, reported earlier, has been grazed. Most plants at this site were grazed last year.

Do you think the grazing is kangaroos or something else - or you really have no way in telling?

Grazing by kangaroos seems to be accidental. More problematic are rabbits and choughs.

The way it's been so neatly bitten off suggests to me mammal rather than bird, in which case it could be kangaroos or hares (or something smaller?). I've never seen rabbits in the area. Calochilus and Thelymitra leaves (which are relatively fleshy) seem to be frequently grazed. For other species, eg Corunastylis, Diuris and greenhoods, the flowers are targeted or tubers are dug up. This is more likely birds.

There are a couple of areas on Black Mountain that appear to have resident populations of rabbits (in a grassy area near the dam on the sw corner and a spot along the Forest Trail on the western side where they completely destroyed a very large population of Acianthus one year). Choughs do a lot of damage by biting off emerging flower stems and scratching out tubers.
