Hi Cath, these don't look like Pheidole, but they could be one of several other genera including Doleromyrma and Arnoldius - these small ants are hard to be sure about unless you have them under the microscope. Cheers, Jon

We cannot see the trailing edge of the forewing (which needs to show 5 reddish spots along the margin for C. pulcheliiodes), although C. pulchelloides is more likely in southern Australia than C. lotrix.
