I suggest this is a Willie Wagtail nest. The Grey Fantail nest has a 'tail' hanging under the nest which I cannot see in the image. Chris

There is a 'tail' visible in the first photo. The unfocused bit in front of the trunk, blending in fairly well

Hi, Jeremyahagan, the image you posted appears to have caused some discussion. Can you please indicate whether the nest had a tail or not. If not then it is the nest of a Willie wagtail, if yes then a nest of a Grey fantail. Chris

I'll check to see if anyone else in the walking party took photos.

Hi Jeremyahagan,I am wondering if you have had the opportunity to check this image out with other members of the walking party. I note there are a few nest images of both Grey Fantail and Willie Wagtail nests up on CNM and they may be worth checking out. Chris

Hi, It would appear that no one else took photos. I've checked out the grey fantail nests on google images and from what I saw, the tails on these nests are quite substantial and I don't remember anything like that. I think the "tail" you mentioned in the first photo is an optical illusion and is actually part of the tree bark pattern in the background. I'd lean 85% to it being a willy wagtail

Thanks, I will go with Willie Wagtail. I agree about the illusion, hence the id problem. Chris
