Conopidae (family) (Thick-headed fly)
These unusual-looking flies may be seen feeding at flowers, and often mimic wasps, bees or hoverflies in appearance. They are parasitic on other insects, mainly bees and wasps. They lay a single egg into an adult bee (for example), and the larva develops within the bee's abdomen.
