Is this evidence of a wombat near peak of mt majura?

Without a scale its hard to tell but looks more like kangaroo from here atm. But wildlife carers have introduced wombats to the area and there have been sightings of them elsewhere on Mt Majura

There were sightings of wombats at the east slope in front of wombat warren (1, see Vombatus ursinus (Common wombat, Bare-nosed Wombat)) and Blue Metal Road (1, photographed by worker building gas pipeline under BMR not recorded on CNM).

I agree with Don; the droppings look a bit small against the rock aggregate of the road. Interesting to hear that wildlife carers release wombats on Mt Majura.

Hi Waltraud, First there were no wombats at Ainslie-Majura. Now they are present. Its just my assumption that carers put them there, because there has been a lot of wombat rearing going on especially in the last 20 years. Alternative hypotheses: 1) They were always there but habitat is marginal so population remained at 2-3 animals and never came to our attention (seems highly implausible); 2 They were air-dropped in by parachute (likewise).

Yes I’m very familiar with wombat poo in Victoria. Yesterday I saw this on the summit road and thought ‘wombat poo’ as I went by. Then I thought I should take a pic and post as I knew there was interest in the whereabouts of wombats on mt majura. But I also know that it’s quite possible it was large kangaroo poo as there is a lot of variation and this poo was not particularly fresh.
