They are cool aren't they :)! Lycopodiella lateralis is quite morphologically similar to Lycopodium fastigiatum, though the former is often more upright. In this case the kicker is habitat preference, Lycopodiella lateralis is common in coastal forests and tall wet communities more generally. Lycopodium fastigiatum however, is an alpine plant which barely occurs below 1600m, let alone at 600m. Conversly it seems to grow it fairly dry environments, in scree or herbfields at the base of rocks. All present records are from the ALPs so this would've been quite the range extension! ;)
yes, I did register that this woukd be a bit of an odd distribution record for Lycopodium fastigiatum, but didn’t notice Lycopodiella in the Species guide.
