User's notes

Mix of males and females. The butterflies really preferred this sedge for roosting (or resting): there was just one patch around the dam. Sometimes one would flutter off, but almost immediately settle on another part of this patch of sedge, showing no interest in other nearby sedges (Cyperus eragrostis: different architecture: Carex appressa, another different architecture), or tall herbs (Verbena incompta) or tall grasses (Phalaris mainly). They stayed in place, wings folded, for quite some time: at least 5-10 minutes - until disturbed by a photographer without a zoom lens ! (size of animal is a guess from memory, for body length)
