Hi John, I had a good web link that no longer works. The best guide is to use the Species pages on CNM Other Shrubs You can also use iNaturalist or Atlas of Living Australia to compare with postings from other people. Paropsine are usually round, often called button beetles. If it is shield-shaped it is likely to be a shield bug or other true bug. Otherwise it is simply experience.

Hi @Csteele4 - if this is Mictis profana and not Amorbus sp. (genus), then you might have to review some of the Amorbus sp. sightings which are similar to this one.
@michaelb after having a closer look at our sightings and those on iNaturalist, I've decided to go with Amorbus sp after all for this sighting, as it lacks the distinctive bright "x" on the back. Thanks for catching me here!
