A shield bug, not a beetle. @JohnGiacon

Hi John, I had a good web link that no longer works. The best guide is to use the Species pages on CNM Other Shrubs
You can also use iNaturalist or Atlas of Living Australia to compare with postings from other people. Paropsine are usually round, often called button beetles. If it is shield-shaped it is likely to be a shield bug or other true bug. Otherwise it is simply experience.

Hi Alison,
Thanks. I was actually after a way of distinguishing the different Paropsines.
Cheers, John

As I suggested, the species page on CNM. Other Shrubs - Not sure why this linked to Other shrubs previously. There has been a bug with beetles appearing under other shrubs.

Hi @Csteele4 - if this is Mictis profana and not Amorbus sp. (genus), then you might have to review some of the Amorbus sp. sightings which are similar to this one.

@michaelb I feel pretty confident that this is Mictis profana, so I'll go through the Amorbus sp sightings today and check them over. :)

@michaelb after having a closer look at our sightings and those on iNaturalist, I've decided to go with Amorbus sp after all for this sighting, as it lacks the distinctive bright "x" on the back. Thanks for catching me here!
