Good sighting. Recorded at Oakdale NR many years ago but may be extinct there due to development of excessive Themeda thatch. There is a big sustainable population in the Collector TSRs off the Bredalbane Rd. Roadside populations are very vulnerable to adverse council operations like grading and slashing
@RogerF - this roadside patch was "eye-balled" while driving as being potentially suitable, with a quick stop to validate the patch yielding Keyacris within about 1 minute. Based on this rapid assessment, relatively large patches of suitable habitat persist along Marked Tree Road and Collector Road. Of note, we have recently recorded Keyacris in dense Themeda thatch at a site near Wee Jasper. It appeared at first sub-optimal habitat, with the site approx. 95% Themeda (mostly old grass). Four individuals were found with low intensity survey in a 0.5ha site. Based on this, Oakdale NR may still hold a remnant population of Keyacris (though proper management certainly required). Cheers, Max
