Thanks Mike how many adults do you think there are? I am currently mapping nut bearing Blue Gums across Canberra to see if there is a correlation between Gang-gang nest sites and Blue Gums - Blue Gums make up a third of their diet in Canberra.
It is a steep slope but I can go back and count the trees with significant number of nuts. Possibly 15. I have not seen Gang-gangs there but they do get around. (Still pairs flying in O'Malley).
Mike, agree, definitely need a more nuanced understanding of non-locals/exotics vis a vis invasiveness and that some have heritage values. CNMs sleeper weeds project will inform the former.
Yes Mike we have controlled blue gum wildlings on Red Hill and will continue to do this except in a few places where Gang-gangs are already feeding amongst planted trees. Nearly all of the mapped Blue Gums are either in the urban area or in plantations around water towers or part of "native plantings" between 1950 -1975 with Canberra Nature Park
