Indeed. I harvested it a few days ago along with 4 or 5 others from Trevor's latest Pinnacle sortie. Our total species count is now sitting at a tantalising 899! Thanks Trevor.
Is that number 899 the number of photographed sightings? Just wondering because the field guide for the pinnacle says 1025. Anyway, a re-identification of a grey wolf spider hopefully gave you the 900th. If not a water snail or a Robshelfordia circumducta cockroach I photographed yesterday should do the trick. I'm thinking it won't take long to reach 1000.
The 1025 includes exotic species, whereas our count is fr native species only. Take off the 1023 exotic species and you have 902. But I have also excluded some "double records" where a "xxx sp." is clearly the same as a sighting later identified to species level. On the other hand there are a few plants on our plant list that goes back years before CNM that have yet to be added to CNM. CNM also counts sub species and variants, which I have not always done. Then there is the issue of how to count "cosmopolitan" species - are they native or not. So the number is really quite rubbery and we could well be over 900 already. FYI Trevor, my list has been checked a couple of times against a full Pinnacle Dump from the CNM database from Michael M.
PS: Could you give me the sighting number of the re-identification of a grey wolf spider, otherwise I am unlikely to pick it up until the next time I ask for a complete dump. Thanks.
Thanks Trevor (and Alison). That's our "official" 900 :-) And I'm still to trawl through your yesterday's haul. Certainly the Robshelfordia circumducta will be a new one as well when confirmed.
