Another first for me. Pointed out by my FOG colleagues Rainer Rehwinkel & Marg Ning. Estimate height ~20cm. Judging by the v. small number of sightings on CNM the Common Elbow Orchid hasn't been so common or is commonly overlooked !?
I suspect the main reason for the low number of sightings is that it is a very cryptic species that is difficult to detect and doesn't occur in the Canberra reserves with high visitation this resulting in few reports. Additionally as the species often grows in leaf litter it responds poorly to fire. Given the number of fires and hazard reduction burns over the past 20 years I imagine the species has had a tough time in the Canberra region.
