Need to carry a pair of nail scissors to cut a case open carefully, to see if there is live or dead larva, or pupa, or best of all a flightless female. If there is a live larva, it will happily reseal the case, no harm done.

Thanks Don, I have cut open cases I've taken home that don't seem to have emerged. Didn't realise I could do this if the larvae was still alive. The case is still in the same position (very close to home) so I will take a pair of scissors with me, perhaps tomorrow.
