Ist record of species naturalised in the ACT. It is on the ACT weed alert list but has yet to have its weed risk assessed. It is considered to be a sleeper weed nationally

User's notes

Raceme terminal, 10cm long with abt 20 flowers.

It’s a new one for me too. I might have said G. monspessulana if I had not reported some a couple of minutes earlier; up close it looked different. I used iNaturalist to get a second suggestion and followed up online and in Weeds of the South East, Richardson et.al. It is not in the ACT Plant Census. Given the location on old Long Gully Road, it could be another horticultural broom.

Length of flower raceme and length of leaf petiole defines it as Madeira Broom.
