You know I almost put sifton, but last time I did that I was wrong. I'm still struggling with distinguishing between these two. But good to have another addition to the PNR species list.
Leaves 3-10mm long and ~0.5mm wide for sifton, vs 10-50mm long and 1-2mm wide in aculeata is a good place to start. I must confess that I've seen enough of both to just eyeball them, as a general rule both are not as common as C.longifolia or C.quinquefaria. C.sifton seems to occurs pretty sporadically in the ACT, I have found it at 5 sites on Red hill, there are never more than 4 plants, the most I have ever seen in one spot has been 6 at farrer ridge. So a good one to have on the reserve list for the pinnacle. C.aculeata is sparsly distributed in the city, but occurs in stands of 1000s of plants in the lower foothills of Namadgi.
