I think this is the wrong shape and pattern for T. micalis. See here:

The shape and size is right for genus Choreutis but I can't find a matching species.

I agree, I too looked in Choreutis (genus) but couldn't find a match. It looks like a moth in the family Choreutidea family, I think it looks most like a pehaps un-named Asterivora (genus) species, see here on the ALA: https://bie.ala.org.au/species/urn:lsid:biodiversity.org.au:afd.taxon:10be58ea-c14a-411b-b814-ccff15fcd530
( I think the name of geeus might suggest the moths like daisy floweres. eg. asters).
On Bold Systems A . homotypa to my eye looks most likely but this moth is probably different again.

None of the 14 named Australian Choreutidae (including A . homotypa) have a medial band of 3or4 black and white patches.
None of the BOLD specimens in the four Australian genera have this pattern.
I am unclear about which genus this specimen would belong to.
I suggest 'Chroeutidae (family)'.

Thank you all for your discussion - I'm sorry I couldn't get a clearer photo or more photos. Sounds like it's a bit of a mystery . . .
