The male flew over my head quite low and I followed him to the nest tree. I didn't realise that it was a next tree until I got to the other side and saw the female - which I thought at first was a juvenile. I have other photos which show the chewing on the same tree, as well as photos of the male. The tree is on the south-eastern bank of the creek which runs along the north-eastern side of the reserve, closer to the entrance than the first dam. Happy to supply more info and photos if required. The male came from the direction of Mugga Lane, so I hope the proposed crematorium doesn't go ahead.
Thanks - very interesting we poled seven hollows in Callum Brae which people had reported seeing Gang gangs looking into or enter/leave. Most of those checked where close to this hollow, but we did not pick up any nesting -so will go back and check this one out. Six of the hollows were empty and one had chewed bark at its base consistent with Gang-gang preparation.Pairs appear to prepare more than one hollow so perhaps we poled a non-chosen potential alternative hollow for this pair. Thanks for putting this up it is very helpful
Thanks! I saw a pair investigating another tree nearby months ago, but I don't know if it's the same pair. I have better photos from that sighting because I had a better lens on the camera at the time. I can't be certain that they are nesting of course, but the female seemed quite settled in and reluctant to move or even make a sound.
