Found flying in the high grass at night. 20 mm is the size.

I think that this is Helicoverpa armigera since Lepidoptera House states that armigera lacks a dark band on the forewings, and I also noticed that punctigera has a different number of spots on the wings.

H. armigera and H. punctigera both have variable patterns and shading on the forewings,
so the differences between the species are less than the variability within each species.. The only useful diagnostic is the presence or absence of a pale mark in the hindwing terminal dark band, which is not visible in these photos.
