I removed 2 bags of seeding flax-leaved Fleabane from Valour park, the second photo shows one of the sites in Valour park from where I removed approximately 20 seeding fleabane. There are 2 specimens visible on the second photo which I left for documentation, one of which in the seeding stage of which I took the first photo. The 2nd photo shows also the appalling weed-infested stage of Valour park which abuts the nature reserve to the west and north. Friends of Mt Majura carry out weed control in the reserve basically without any support from the Government; in addition, each year volunteers are confronted with weeds invading the reserve from Valour park and volunteers have to start all over again. For many years FoMM requested Government to carry out weed control in Valour park - in the rare cases weed control was carried out following numerous complaints it was only after the weeds dropped seeds. FoMM at their own cost bought native grass which volunteers direct-seeded in the hope the native grass will provide a barrier to weeds invading from Valour park. This had limited success: seeds are blown quite a distance into the reserve and volunteers have to hand remove weeds invading from Valour park each year.
The situation is appalling and unacceptable.
