Hi Alison, I have been puzzling over this one for a few days and think it is Iridomyrmex based mainly on the head shape. They are hard to be absolutely sure about from a photo though. If you crush Anonychomyrma they have a different smell from Iridomyrmex, so that can be a useful field character next time you see some. Cheers, Jon

These are in the laneway, just a few metres from home. I'll try to get some better photos and to crush one for the smell.
