Determining the species is easier if we can see the pattern on the forewing.

The overall shape and palpi suggest a noctuid, maybe Neumichtis nigerrima?

If you increase the gamma to 1.7 to show the pattern, and stretch to x axis by 300% to undo the perspective foreshortening, then one can see the forewing patterns. Then the observable lines in the pattern correspond well with those of M. anthracitaria.
I tried adding that distorted image to the sighting, but apparently failed.
When I clicked 'edit' it said follow the instructions in the 'How to Guide'. But when I clicked on that, I got 'Record not found or has been deleted'. This was not helpful.

OK, I haven't seen that. But I forgot to mention another thing, that it seems to have a pale hindwing.

Yes that certainly points to a Noctuid. N. nigerrima has very similar forewing lines to M. anthacitaria.
